When a patient’s tooth needs its shape, size, strength, and appearance improved, Dr. James E. Gaff may recommend a dental crown in Jacksonville, Florida. A dental crown may be used to:
- Protect a weak tooth from breaking
- Hold a cracked tooth together
- Restore a broken or worn down tooth
- Cover and support a tooth with a large filling
- Anchor a dental bridge
- Cover a badly stained or irregularly shaped tooth
- Cover a dental implant
One-visit crowns, or CEREC® crowns (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), means that our dentist can restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using high-quality ceramic material that matches the color of your natural teeth. CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology incorporating a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument. Our dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses computer aided design technology to design the restoration. Then computer aided manufacturing automatically creates the restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process only takes about one hour.
