If a patient has one or more missing teeth, Dr. James E. Gaff may recommend a dental bridge in Jacksonville, Florida. A bridge is made of two crowns for the teeth on either side of a gap between teeth. These two teeth are called the abutment teeth, and there will be a false tooth between them. Bridges can provide patients with natural looking teeth that can last up to 10 years. Bridges can:
- Restore your smile
- Restore your ability to properly chew and speak
- Maintain the shape of your face
- Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth
- Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
During your first bridge visit, our dentist will prepare your abutment teeth by re-contouring them to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Next, impressions of your teeth are made which serve as a model from which the bridge will be made. Our dentist will also give you a temporary bridge to protect your exposed teeth. During your second visit, your temporary bridge will be removed and the new permanent bridge will be fitted and adjusted as necessary. The bridge is then cemented into place.
