How do I know when it is time to come in for a checkup?

Usually, healthy adults benefit from a professional cleaning and checkup every six months. Twice daily brushing and flossing go a long way toward maintaining good dental health, but it’s wise to have professional cleanings twice a year so that plaque that has hardened into tartar can be removed.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I don’t want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

In other cases, you may benefit most from the addition of "invisible" braces.  Dr Gaff is an INVISALIGN certified provider.  If you’ve been wondering what modern dentistry can do to give you a brighter, more beautiful smile, call us for a consultation to discuss the options with you.

My spouse snores and keeps me awake at night. I’ve heard a dentist might be able to prescribe an appliance that prevents snoring. Can you help?

jacksonville dentistSnoring can be caused by a number of factors, so the first step is to have your spouse come in for a consultation and analysis with Dr. Gaff to determine the cause. In some cases, a condition called sleep apnea, where a person actually stops breathing for a few seconds, may be the cause. In other causes, snoring can be caused by enlarged anatomical structures in the mouth and throat that collapse and obstruct airflow when a person is asleep. In this situation, we can prescribe and fit a special appliance called a snoreguard that gently holds the mouth and throat in an open position and prevents snoring.
